Partnership for Leaders in Education
Recognizing that effective leadership is as vital to success in education as it is in business, the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business (Darden) and the Curry School of Education (Curry) established a formal partnership – the Partnership for Leaders in Education (PLE) – to bring the most advanced thinking in business and education to meet the unique demands of managing and governing schools and school systems. For the past 3 years, the PLE has been committed to providing school administrators and board members with programs that are comparable to executive leadership programs offered to senior-level, business executives. In doing so, we have demonstrated that by engaging leadership at all levels and aligning efforts around student achievement, change and increases in student achievement can be accelerated.

Young Women Leaders Program
Co-sponsored by the University of Virginia's Women's Center and Curry School of Education, the Young Women Leaders Program [YWLP] is a free year-long mentoring program that focuses on promoting middle school girls' leadership abilities. Local 7th grade girls are paired with UVa undergraduate women to work on exploring how women and girls can best reach their leadership potential. The program includes a research and evaluation component. Currently we have studies that are investigating developmental issues faced by adolescent girls and college women as well as the impact of mentoring on outcomes such as self-esteem, academic achievement, peer relations, and body image.

Young Writers Workshop
The Young Writers Workshop of the University of Virginia, established in 1982, brings together a community of writers with a common purpose: to create a supportive and noncompetitive environment where teenagers can live and work as artists. Every staff member has a commitment to writing. The faculty, professional authors interested in developing new talent, bring practical experience to the workshop setting.
